The WITH Module is a psycho-educational group intended for people in relation with a participant in the CBT Module.

While the  CBT module is intended for young adults experiencing a first episode of psychosis, the VSLA Module offers people in contact with these young people the means to better understand the experience of the person experiencing a first episode and by those close to them. Like the CBT Module, the AVEC program includes 4 sections comprising a total of 24 group activities led by 2 therapists. In the past, the CBT Module (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) has been successfully offered to several young people experiencing a first episode of psychosis. We then noticed that relatives (parents, brothers or sisters, friends, spouses) wanted more information on the activities of the CBT Module. This AVEC module was therefore designed specifically for loved ones.

Here are its general objectives:

  At the end of the VSLA Module, relatives will be able to  :

1) Understand the implications of a first episode of psychosis for the person experiencing it and those close to it;

2) Accompany and support a young adult experiencing a first episode of psychosis;

3) Identify means to reduce the consequences and discomforts associated with the first episodes of psychosis for both the young person and those close to him;

4) Recognize the implications of being in a relationship with a person suffering from a first episode of psychosis;

5) Exchange with people living in a similar situation and share ways to feel better;

6) Maintain a positive attitude and maintain the hope of the recovery of the person experiencing a first episode of psychosis;

7) Use cognitive behavioral strategies to reduce the difficulties associated with a first episode of psychosis;

8) Adapt to stressful situations and thus control the appearance of symptoms associated with stress;

9) Collaborate on a plan to avoid relapse.
